Due to logistical issues, we had difficulty sending additional yarn squares to Mexico where they were to be sewn together into afghans. As a result, we have discontinued the project as of December 31, 2019.

The project to create afghans from donated knitted or crocheted squares is described in a flyer. The directions are located in a separate document. Please contact Sam Brown sam@projectamigo.org with any questions about the project.

The afghans are given away at no cost to student scholarship recipients who are supported by Project Amigo. These are some of the students who received afghans that were distributed in the state of Colima, Mexico:

The document Afghans for Project Amigo program description provides details about the project.

Beginning in December 2017 eight seamstresses in the Queseria migrant camp in Colima, Mexico have taken over responsibility for sewing yarn squares into afghans. They are paid through contributions by donors who want to help pay their wages.
