Please join us in promoting literacy--for only the cost of providing printouts or photocopies. This project is meant to get people excited about reading, especially those who may not have access to pleasurable reading material.
Here is how to become involved
- Download one or more stories using the links that are provided.
- Child literacy initiative
- Go to a school near you that is lacking in economic resources or that contains children who live in poverty. Ask permission from the Principal/Director and a classroom teacher to distribute the story to the students.
- Adult literacy initiative
- Go to a community center, workplace, or adult education class and ask permission from the director or supervisor to distribute the story to those interested in receiving it.
- Make enough printouts or photocopies of the story to hand out to everyone. To save money you may want to consider making a single copy of the story that can be shared.
- Ask people to take turns reading parts of the story aloud.
- Send an email to Samuel Brown [cheshbrownsr@cox.net] with the name and location of the school or organization. Including a photo of people holding up the story is optional but would be greatly appreciated.
If people speak a language other than one in which a story currently appears, please send Samuel Brown [cheshbrownsr@cox.net] a translation of the story into that language. He will paste the text next to the illustrations and create a version of the story in that language.
Those who are visually-impaired may access the stories by using text reading software with the text files or listen to them. Three of the stories have accompanying audio files.
